Body Mass Index (BMI) is a person’s weight in kilograms divided by the square of height in meters. It is is a measure of body fat based on height and weight that applies to adult men and women. A high BMI can be an indicator of high body fatness. BMI can be used to screen for weight categories that may lead to health problems but it is not diagnostic of the body fatness or health of an individual.
Commonly accepted BMI ranges are underweight: under 18.5 kg/m2, normal weight: 18.5 to 25, overweight: 25 to 30, obese: over 30.
